We are so excited to be working with The Hive: Chicago's Beekeeping Supply Store. Please help support our efforts at expanding the hives at The Roof Crop HQ and the roofs that we farm.
The Hive Supply and The Roof Crop celebrate National Honey Bee Day - August 18, 2018
Chicago is home to over 2,000 bee hives which collectively pollinate the plants, trees and flowers in our parks, gardens, urban farms as well as producing local honey that improves the health and well-being of thousands of Chicago residents. Put simply, Chicago would not be as vibrant without bees pollinating millions of plants every year.
Bees increase the bio-diversity of Chicago’s urban environment. This makes the entire urban ecosystem stronger and more resilient to pollution and environmental changes. The Roof Crop’s first three hives were installed this year by The Hive Supply and we want to install as many hives together as we can in the 2019 season.
Please support our work by buying one (or all 3) of our buttons designed by our After School Matters Intern, Tamia James. The proceeds will go directly to support bees across the city as we work with Chicago youth to improve the bio-diversity of Chicago through bees, education and a commitment to urban agriculture. $1 buys you our BEE-BUTTON commemorating National Honey Bee Day and contributes to our goal of installing a minimum of two more hives next year and engaging two more After School Matters interns.
This year’s ASM interns, Tamia James and Mary Cook were on-site for the first honey extraction from TRC’s hives. Tamia James will be attending Central Michigan University this fall. Mary Cook worked alongside our farmers for the season and will be attending the University of Illinois this fall.
